We like to use this blog to give our readers tips about energy conservation, tricks on staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter and insight on all things HVAC. But being that we are a family owned business in Toms River, we thought it would be nice to present you with some fall local activities in Toms River that you and your family can fill your time with as we roll into a new season. Besides, when you live at the Jersey Shore, there’s never a shortage of fun things to do.
Although the kids are back in school, if you’re looking to get out of the house on the weekends, check out this list of local activities in Toms River to keep you busy.
Head out for a Hike
Contents
We think there’s no better time to get outdoors and go for a hike than in the fall. Explore six miles of trails and soak in the sounds of nature at Cattus Island County Park. The unspoiled beauty of nature is the main attraction at this 500-acre park and it’s dog friendly, just remember to bring Fido on a leash. Allow a half day to soak it all in, and when you think you’ve seen it all, stop by the Cooper Environmental Center to enjoy displays and collections of reptiles and fish before you leave.
Saddle Up for a Bike Ride
Toms River and Ocean County is home to some of the most relaxing New Jersey bike trails. The Barnegat Branch Trail, for example, has over 15 miles of abandoned railroad trail that extends from South Toms River to Barnegat. The average peak color for fall foliage in New Jersey is around October 20-29 so, pack your waters and some trail mix and enjoy the views.
Harvest Arts Festival
On Saturday, October 15, celebrate the arts and autumn season at the Downtown Toms River Harvest Arts Festival. Entertainment includes dance acts, bands, pumpkin decorating, rides for children, street performers, a fall dessert contest, beer garden, and much more! Last year, an estimated 6,000 people attended the event. One you don’t want to miss!
Toms River Farmers Market
Nowhere else can you have the chance to find savory produce (perfectly picked at the peak of freshness) and mingle with those in your own community who grow the food you eat. Pick up some of your favorite seasonal fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs, fresh baked goods, smoothies, handmade soaps and much more… fresh from the farm. The downtown Toms River Farmers Market is located at the south corner of Irons & West Water Streets and runs every Wednesday 11:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. through November 16.
